Blogpower Awards: Best North American Blog

I am very humbled and gratified to announce that this modest blog has been accorded a great honor. It has been selected as the "Best North American Blog or Column" by the Blogpower Awards. Thanks to everyone who voted. It was quite a squeeker, with Lord Nazh and Zaftig providing fierce competition right up until the very end. It was so close that the Supreme Court was on call in case the vote needed to be nullified. In addition, to those two fine blogs, the contenders included Maggies Farm, The Dilbert Blog, Clusterfuck Nation, Gates of Vienna, Nobody Important, The Huffington Post and That Med School Guy, which makes my surprising victory more than a little suspect. Hopefully, the Justice Department is too busy dealing with subpoenas to investigate any questions of voter fraud that may arise.

Let me also congratulate the other winners:

Best Britblog or Column--An Englishman's Castle
Best Blog or Column Outside North America and the U.K.--Sicily Scene
Best Fisker--Mr Eugenides
Best Ranter--Devil's Kitchen
Best Political Blog or Column--Bel is Thinking
Best Blogpower Blog or Column--As a dodo
Best Layout and Style--Honeysmack
Best Blog Name--Shades of Grey
Best Little Blogger--Sicily Scene

Most Politically Incorrect Blog or Column--Theo Spark

Most Consistently Entertaining Blog or Column--Bryan Appleyard
Prettiest or Tastiest Blog or Column--Sicily Scene
Award for Services to Blogging--James Higham
Best Post of All Time--Captain Smack, "How To Start Your Own Religion"
Most Unintentionally Humorous Post--UK News and Politics, "Immigrants"

I think the mothers of the winners for "Most Over-rated Blog or Column" and "Most Unintentionally Humorous Post" must be especially proud. I hope you will visit as many of these blogs as you can.

The awards ceremony will take place in Second Life on July 1 and and will begin at 0900 New York time (1400 in Britain, 1500 Central Europe Time, 1700 in Moscow and 2200 in Australia), so feel free to stop by. Here are some preliminary details and I will update this post as more details become available. I hope to be there myself if I can get my avatar back from the cleaners in time.

Finally, let me thank James Higham for his hard work in making these awards a reality, Tom Paine for making the awards ceremony a virtual reality and the other members of Blogpower, whose mission to help smaller blogs is indeed worthwhile. I shall endeavor to be worthy of this honor as long as I don't have to visit orphanages or wear a brightly colored sash for the next year. And I promise to resign immediately if any embarrassing photos of me in a compromising position are published by the tabloids.

Congrats Jon, I thought we 3 would end up tied (and had we got back up with you, my votes would have been for all 3) but you pulled away in the last hours :)

Most deserved.

I hate it when conservative win shit. Why can't the terrorists win one every once in a while? Or the socialists? Or the communists?

You know, all the factions and movements nearest and dearest to the bleeding liberal heart.

But this win hurts. It hurts our cause. Rvery time a conservative wins something, a little piece of liberalism dies.

Still, good breeding will out so congrats, Mr. Swift. You've won this battle but not the war. Think of yourself as Inspector Gadget and me as that... well, the shadowy guy who always got beaten by Gadget in the end.

Congrats Jon.

What I want to know is when will your book be coming out? (and you better not just do a rehash of your first book), and even though Paul Krugman said today that Americans are getting shorter, feeding them a diet of liberals would not go over well in this country today. We need to solve this short American problem because we've been eating liberals for lunch for some time and it doesn't seem to be working all that well.

...and Joe Bageant would tell you to hold out for at least a couple of hundred K for the advance.

At then end of World War Two, Winston Churchill said to his countrymen: "We may now allow ourselves a brief period of celebration". Although well deserved, this congratulatory post sitting at the top of your blog is getting a little bit ridiculous for a conservative. It's been too full days you've been celebrating and the natives are getting restless sir! It's time for another essay. [the conservative inner conscious, which would speak honestly to its Latin American house and yard workers that slacking off or wanting vacations is a sign of moral weakness should be saying to it's own inner self-'Get your ass back to work and write you slacker']

Does anyone else think that Ms Smack and Ruthie look very similar?

Congratulations, sir. Nice to see the lefties shut out of another set of awards.

I wonder whether you would have received this honour if your poor mother had any say in the matter...
